The Millennium
Quarter in Manchester
encompasses four
projects (two buildings
and two spaces).
The regeneration of the
area was given extra
impetus following the
bomb damage of June
1996 and was completed in time for
the Commonwealth Games in 2002.
The Urbis Building stands in the Cathedral Gardens, a city
park used by workers, shoppers, visitors and school children.
The gardens reflect the significance of the historic location.
Following the slope of the ground, the gardens are mainly
grass surfaced with tree planting and features making use of
the sculptural formation of the ground. A water feature along
one edge culminates in a fountain.
